Provability and Interpretability Logics with Restricted Realizations

چکیده
The provability logic of a theory T is the set of modal formulas, which under any arithmetical realization are provable in T . We slightly modify this notion by requiring the arithmetical realizations to come from a specified set Γ. We make an analogous modification for interpretability logics. We first studied provability logics with restricted realizations, and show that for various natural candidates of theory T and restriction set Γ, where each sentence in Γ has a well understood (meta)-mathematical content in T , the result is the logic of linear frames. However, for the theory Primitive Recursive Arithmetic (PRA), we define a fragment that gives rise to a more interesting provability logic, by capitalizing on the well-studied relationship between PRA and IΣ1. We then study interpretability logics, obtaining some upper bounds for IL(PRA), whose characterization remains a major open question in interpretability logic. Again this upper bound is closely relatively to linear frames. The technique is also applied to yield the non-trivial result that IL(PRA) ⊂ ILM.

The Interpolation Theorem for IL and ILP
In this article we establish interpolation for the minimal system of interpretability logic IL. We prove that arrow interpolation holds for IL and that turnstile interpolation and interpolation for the-modality easily follow from this. Furthermore, these properties are extended to the system ILP. The related issue of Beth Deenability is also addressed. As usual, the arrow interpolation property...
متن کاملGeneralized Veltman models with a root
Provability logic is a nonstandard modal logic. Interpretability logic is an extension of provability logic. Generalized Veltman models are Kripke like semantics for interpretability logic. We consider generalized Veltman models with a root, i.e. r-validity, r-satisfiability and a consequence relation. We modify Fine’s and Rautenberg’s proof and prove non–compactness of interpretability logic.

This is an overview a study of interpretability logic in Zagreb for the last twenty years: a brief history and some planes for further research. The idea of treating a provability predicate as a modal operator goes back to Gödel. The same idea was taken up later by Kripke and Montague, but only in the mid–seventies was the correct choice of axioms, based on Löb’s theorem, seriously considered b...
